Man/machine interactions are a real source of danger. This phenomenon is even more likely when these interactions take place in confined spaces. As such, it affects a range of vehicles from various types of activity: loaders, graders, self-propelled trucks, refuse collection lorries, etc.
2/ The measures to adopt
To resolve this issue and avoid these accidents, there are a number of preventative measures that can be put in place. The first is at the organisational level. This means organising traffic flows, managing access, and setting out specific waiting areas for drivers. Drivers, pedestrians, supervisors, occupational safety experts, external service providers, and beyond – all members of the workforce, both internal and external, must be involved and engaged.
The second measure covers technical aspects. This measure involves providing technological improvements that bolster visibility. This is because in these situations, the main accident risk factor is lack of visibility from the driver’s seat. As a result of this, visual assistance systems such as screens and cameras have been developed, allowing the driver to see people near their vehicle – directly or indirectly. However, it’s still crucial to pay attention, as the driver remains responsible for detecting risks by checking their monitoring screen. These systems provide visual information on the area they cover, not warnings.

This is a waterproof video kit, which features an IP69K-certified monitor (the best level of protection against solids and liquids) and a camera with either a 50° or a 120° field of vision. Remember that the smaller the field of vision, the easier it is for the driver to see obstacles shown on the screen. However, the larger the camera’s field of vision, the greater the additional field of vision given to the driver.
