The French Road Safety Observatory has released the figures on accidents involving tractors in France between 2013 and 2017. What can be gleaned from these figures and what solutions are there to avoid such accidents? AMS can help you there.
Tractor accidents – the figures
According to the Road Safety Observatory, over the five years reviewed, tractors were involved in 984 road accidents, in which 201 people lost their lives, including 40 tractor drivers and 4 passengers. Aside from these fatalities, a further 1,073 people received major or minor injuries. Another fact is that 32% of victims in tractor accidents were motorcycle users, 27% were car drivers, 7% were cyclists and 5% pedestrians.
It should be also noted that 36% of cases involved a side impact, 23% were head-on collisions and 16% were crashes from behind. Unsurprisingly, the time of year in which these accidents were most likely were during harvest time: 42% of all tractor accidents happened in July and August. Lastly, 80% of tractor accidents took place during daytime hours.
Tractor accidents – how to avoid them?
AMS places your safety at the heart of its concerns. We develop our products to enhance your safety on the road and, in turn, avoid collisions. To reduce the risk of accidents, it is important to have good visibility, especially when exiting fields which is where many accidents take place. For this, you can choose to affix cameras to both sides of the front end of your vehicle which will provide you with a view of what is coming from both sides of the road. To avoid collisions from behind, you can opt for embedded cameras for the rear of your tractor. These will allow you so see if another road user is about to overtake you or make some other manoeuvre. Finally, to ensure that you are visible to others, you can contact us about lighting solutions such as amber beacons.
